"Storms Batter Abu Dhabi Team’s Hopes in Lithuania… Al Qamzi Surrenders Valuable Points"

Klaipeda – Lithuania, July 19, 2025: Amid stormy conditions and fierce competition among 20 drivers from 10 countries, five-time world champion Rashid Al Qamzi, Abu Dhabi team’s racer, finished the second round of the Formula 2 Powerboat World Championship in 14th place after starting from 16th position, a disappointing result for the defending champion who aimed to retain his title and move towards a sixth star.

The race witnessed harsh weather conditions, including heavy rain and thunderstorms, which directly affected the stability of the boats and the performance of the racers, disrupting the qualifiers and the main race proceedings.

Al Qamzi stumbled during the initial qualifiers, exiting early in the Q2 and Q3 stages, forcing him to compete in the "Repechage" (last chance race), where he finished second to secure qualification to the main race. Nevertheless, he could not make the expected progress and settled for 14th place in one of the toughest rounds of the season.

His teammate, Mansour Al Mansoori, skipper of boat number 36, missed the qualifiers and the race due to a mild health issue, which impacted Abu Dhabi team’s chances in this round.

Top Three Results:

Matilda Wiberg (Sweden) – Boat 7

Peter Morin (France) – Boat 11

Helmer Wiberg (Sweden) – Boat 70

Al Qamzi looks forward to making a comeback in the third round of the championship, scheduled in Senigallia, Italy, followed by the fourth round in Peso da Régua, Portugal, before the championship concludes in Vila Velha, as he continues his quest to defend his title and achieve a sixth championship in his career.
